Hoi's Aims

  1. To promote and encourage a greater appreciation of the heritage of Hertfordshire fruit by:
    • Giving talks and guided walks to a variety of audiences.
    • Supporting and attending local outlets, Farmers Markets and County Fairs
    • Holding Apple Days throughout the County each October.
    • Producing publications and information on Hertfordshire fruit and Orchards.
    • Marketing collectively the Orchard produce produced by HOI members.
  2. To conserve and maintain the remaining traditional orchards and create new ones where appropriate by:
    • Providing advice and training to landowners.
    • Enabling and supporting community and schools orchards.
    • Commenting on planning applications affecting existing sites and seeking opportunities to restore, enhance or create orchards as part of development proposals.
  3. To create and maintain a database of sites and cultivars and we work in partnership with
    • Hertfordshire Biological Records Centre
    • University of Hertfordshire
    • Chilterns AONB Special Trees Project.
    • East of England Apples and Orchard Project
    • Peoples Trust for Endangered Species.
